The Desert Role in the Early History of Israel
Desert cultural, social and religious characteristics in ancient Israel are usually explained by the 40 years of the Exodus sojourn. However, a closer examination of the archaeological remains, biblical and extra-biblical sources, indicate a more profound connection between the desert and the formation of early Israel. How deep was this connection? How can we explain it? and what where the historical implications? The lecture attempts to answer these questions.
